How I Stay Motivated To Accomplish My Fitness Goals

SHOP THE POST

I have officially become one of those people that says, “Working out is my escape”…

If you would’ve told me 6 months ago that I would actually be saying this, I would have laughed my butt off… I’m not sure when this mental switch happened but somehow working out is no longer a chore, but actually something I truly look forward to and enjoy. I do believe the switch had to do with 4 major changes I made…

1. I decided I was tired of NOT seeing the results I wanted and was determined to see a change. I promised myself to workout at least 6 days a week, no excuses. Didn’t matter if I had to wake up at 6:00am to make it happen, I was determined and I’m proud to say I’ve stuck to it. Which leads me to number two…

2. I started going to the gym in the mornings…. This is when things really started to click for me. I would procrastinate all day and build up this mental anguish to do my workouts. Finally, I decided to STOP! Stop with the procrastination and wasted energy. I had to just get up and do it. BEST DECISION EVER! I’m not going to lie, it was definitely a difficult adjustment in the beginning. I felt exhausted in the mornings, but I stuck through it and after about a week in, I started to get into a groove. By the end of the second week I felt amazing! I was getting an earlier start to my day, getting better workouts in, and I felt my energy levels lasting longer.

3. Coming up with a schedule/workout that I truly enjoyed was extremely important. For a while, I was doing the BBG workouts at home and it kicked my ass! I think it’s a great program for people that need a good/fast workout, but I was craving something different. The biggest thing for me, was to get out of my house! I wanted to actually go to the gym, blast some music on my headphones, and just run! So coming up with a new plan that incorporated both cardio and toning was such a positive shift for me. Another positive shift, was taking a jog by the beach every other weekend. It’s the perfect boost and inspo I need to feel recharged.

4. Last but definitely not least, getting myself some activewear that I actually felt confident in! If you think about it… you’re going to the gym to better yourself and feel good… how do you expect to feel good when you’re wearing sweaty gear that’s ratty and old? At least that’s how it was for me. I was literally sporting old t-shirts and sports bras that I dug up from the back of my drawer. Buying activewear that was flattering and made me feel good was a huge motivator. It doesn’t have to be expensive…just pieces that make you feel like your best self. Personally, one of my FAVORITE leggings are from Target! They’re the C9 Champion brand in a high-rise-compression supportive fit. This particular style keeps everything in, its firm, and they’re extremely flattering. For my sports bras I like to get a little more creative. One brand I’m currently obsessed with is Alo Yoga. They have a great selection of super trendy and unique sports bras as well as leggings and outerwear that I have yet to try. For sneakers, I invested in a pair that were cute and guaranteed to last. Updating my workout gear made me excited to hit the gym… Whether that’s because I would pretend I was at a fashion show every morning 😉 or because I was ready to break a sweat and look cute while doing it, it got me up and ready to kick ass!

I hope this post serves as a little dose of motivation to stay determined and focused on your fitness goals. Remember it’s all about feeling strong, healthy, and confident.
